Overview
Serving as a fine example of military architecture, Kolossi castle was originally built in
the 13th century, and rebuilt in its present form in the 15th century.
Lemesos (Limassol) Medieval Castle is situated in the heart of the old town, just above the
old harbour. According to tradition, this is where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria
of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England in 1191. The fortified walls are of considerable
archaeological interest and thought to be fragments of a much larger castle.
The old town is narrow streets, lined with historic buildings with cafes and restaurants,
small shops and souvenir shops as well as churches and squares.
